I like to keep things simple and light on the blog, here. I want people to fall in love with this way of life, but I want to present things a little bit at a time. Long term changes start with a single step and then we build on it. During this time of change, it is critical that you begin to replace your bad habits with healthier ones. For example, when I started keto, I knew that it wouldn’t be possible for me to stay committed if I didn’t have a way to eat “on-the-go” because of how busy I am. I taught myself what I could safely eat from gas stations, convenience stores, fast food joints and mid priced restaurants. High priced dining is usually pretty easy. When I’m in my car hauling kids around and I realize that I haven’t had a thing to eat for waaaay too long, I will stop and grab a Squatch Jerky Stick and a Bang Energy You can buy these in bulk and keep them with you, if you prefer. You can save a lot of money that way. However, if you are caught off guard, you can find this snack all over town! Bang does have a lot of caffeine so please keep that in mind…especially if you indulge in Bullet Proof Coffee. Space your caffeine responsibly!
Another behavior change that I adopted early on was to replace my “munching” habit with some other ways to pamper myself. I used to be a late evening snacker. I would also munch when I felt stress or almost ANY emotion. I knew that the first obstacle that I would have to overcome in order to stick with keto was to ditch the late evening snacks….they were usually the most damaging to my pursuit of health. I already loved baths so when I was in those early weeks, looking for ways to increase my salt, magnesium and potassium, I discovered Dr Teals Bath Salts You can find them in lavender, eucalyptus and several other scents depending on your goals. When I was winding down and feeling keto “fluish”, the lavender was so relaxing and the salt would relieve the aches. I still use this to help wind down even though I no longer get the keto flu. The eucalyptus is better for midday because it boosts energy during those early days when you need an increase in your minerals. The minerals get lost in the frequent urination that takes place as your body adjusts to running on ketones. Other things that you can do to create new habits is to read about keto, go on Pinterest and Pin the recipes that look great, interact on your keto FB groups so that you get encouraged and you can encourage others! Give yourself a manicure or a pedicure, get a haircut, read a book, take a walk, go to Starbucks with a friend and sip on a keto friendly beverage. I STRONGLY recommend finding a new, exciting hobby. Something like hiking, jogging, rock climbing, a craft of some sort ect. While you change your eating lifestyle, you will be gaining confidence and that will enable you to try new things! I believe that people find a new lust for life as they get healthy! Taking care of yourself and going on new adventures will be a natural progression from losing the weight!
