Keto 101

Let’s get something straight from the get-go, friends….EVERYONE’S Keto journey is going to look a little bit different.  I belong to several Keto groups on FB and let me tell you, some of them are not very nice!  Maybe I’m biased but I try to focus on my Keto Magic page to stay away from all of the negativity, but I still research on many pages because knowledge is power!  Other groups will call foods that are not organic and/or 100% clean a “non-keto” food.  This is not accurate.  Any food or combination of foods that keeps you under your goal of 20 grams per day IS keto by definition! It may not be the healthiest choice, it might not be organic, but it can still be keto.  I choose to do what other ketoers call “dirty keto”.  I don’t care for the term and I did not come up with it but there it is.  I’m a dirty girl…Lol.  All that means is that our large family cannot afford to eat 100% organic, clean food all of the time, so I choose to focus on carbs and how great I feel as I shrink!  If you would like to go 100% organic and clean I think that is great and we will support you in that as well!  My point is this;  we are all on this journey of getting healthy by ditching the carbs and increasing the fat grams, so lets focus on that!

Ignore the keto police and continue your journey!!

If you are just beginning your journey, here is what you need to know to get started.  At the store, fill your cart up with all kinds of meat (beef, chicken, pork ect), eggs, heavy whipping cream, real butter, salad greens and other leafy greens, cauliflower, avocados, mayo, sour cream and cheese.  This is not near an exhaustive list but it is a simple one to get you started.  If you haven’t already, go to the home page here and click on the Keto Magic Pinterest link to get great recipe ideas and snack tips.  Also, do some research!  Join the Keto Magic FB group and a couple of other groups to learn how real people are navigating the keto life.  The secret is discovering what works for you, because when you find what works, you will stick to it!  In the next post I will fill you in on what worked for me in order to drop my first 45 pounds.
